Everyone loves a summer evening along the Hudson, including this family of baby skunks we spotted tonight at Waryas Park. 🦨
While turning from N Water St tonight to head into the Waryas Park circle we noticed a strange looking creature crossing the road in front of us and sure it enough it was what appeared to be a baby skunk.
No word on why the skunk crossed the road, but apparently to get to River Station on the other side.
And curious because we’d never seen something like that down at the park on a summer evening we kept our eyes open for more of its friends.
Sure enough out of the corner of our eye three of them were rummaging around in the short brush at the base of the Rip Van Winkle Apartments, popping in and out and scooting around the hills in the southern part of the park.
They were pretty brazen and on the smaller side so it leads us to believe they may be skunk babies testing the limits of their skills after being born this Spring.
Regardless of their age, keep an eye out so you don’t get a smelly surprise with your evening stroll along the river, especially if you bring a pet with you. (at Victor C. Waryas Park)
